Protecting your pet from serious, preventable diseases.

Vaccines are one of the most important tools we have to keep your pet healthy. At Milton Veterinary Hospital, we follow AAHA vaccination guidelines and tailor every vaccine protocol to your individual pet's age, lifestyle, and risk factors.

Why Vaccinate? 

Vaccines work by stimulating your pet's immune system to recognize and fight specific diseases. Core vaccines protect against illnesses that are widespread, highly contagious, or pose a serious public health risk. Lifestyle vaccines are recommended based on your pet's environment and activities.

Rabies, Distemper, Parvovirus, and Adenovirus (hepatitis) are considered core vaccines for all dogs regardless of lifestyle. We also recommend Bordetella (kennel cough) for dogs that visit groomers, dog parks, or boarding facilities.

Rabies and the FVRCP combination vaccine (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, and Panleukopenia) are core vaccines for all cats. FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus) is recommended for cats with outdoor access.

Puppies and kittens require a series of vaccines starting at 6–8 weeks of age, with boosters every 3–4 weeks until 16 weeks old. Adult pets receive boosters on a 1- or 3-year schedule depending on the vaccine. We'll create a personalized schedule at your pet's wellness visit.

While there are some vaccines that all pets require, we understand that pets have different exposure and risk levels based on age, environment, travel history, and other deciding factors.

To ensure adequate protection without over vaccinating your pet, we will assess and determine the best vaccination protocol for your pet. This may change over the life of your pet as their needs change.
